How do you properly measure a child for a First Communion dress?

To choose the right size for a First Communion dress, you need to take three basic measurements. The child should be wearing form-fitting clothing, with their feet together, standing straight, and looking straight ahead.

Remember! Always compare the measurements to the MK Maryla size chart. Enter the values selected from the chart when placing your order.

1. Total length of the dress

Measure vertically down from the 7th cervical vertebra (the protruding bone at the base of the neck) to the floor.

Example:

  • Measured length from the 7th vertebra to the floor: 114 cm.

  • Look up this value in the size chart, in the “Total Back Length (dress length at the zipper)” column.

  • The corresponding dress length is 137 cm.

  • Enter 137 cm on the order form.

Important information:

  • The total dress length is not the child’s height.

  • Do not add any centimeters to the measured length on your own.

  • If the girl will be wearing heels during the ceremony, it’s a good idea to have her wear them during the measurement.

  • If the child is being measured barefoot and the measurement is taken several months before First Communion (e.g., around the turn of the year), you can take her height into account and choose a length one size larger.

2. Chest Circumference

Wrap the measuring tape around the torso at shoulder blade level, keeping it horizontal.

The tape measure should lie flat against the body but must not be too tight. Do

not slip a finger under the tape measure or add extra slack. Hold the joint of the tape measure in place with your fingers and read the measurement from the inside of the tape.

Example:

  • Measured chest circumference: 63 cm.

  • Check the MK Maryla size chart.

  • Since the table does not list 63 cm, choose the next larger available size, which is 64 cm.

  • On the order form, enter: 64 cm.

3. Waist circumference

Wrap a measuring tape around the child’s waist at the level of the navel.

The tape measure should lie flat against the body, without squeezing or leaving extra slack.

Hold the point where the tape meets with your fingers and read the measurement from the outside of the tape.

Do not add any centimeters to the measurement you obtain.

Example:

  • Measured waist circumference: 51 cm.

  • Find the corresponding range in the size chart.

  • Based on this, we determine body type X.

  • On the order form, select the body type indicated in the chart.

Remember before placing your order

Take all measurements carefully, without adding any extra allowance on your own. Then compare them with the MK Maryla size chart, and only then fill out the order form.

Accurate measurements are essential for a proper fit of the First Communion dress.

How to Properly Measure a Boy for a First Communion Outfit?

To choose the right size for a First Communion outfit, take accurate measurements of the child. The boy should be wearing thin, form-fitting clothing and should stand straight and relaxed, without tensing his body.

Important: Take all measurements without adding any extra centimeters. Compare the results with the MK Maryla size
chart, and then select the appropriate value or size according to the chart.

1. Total Length

The child should stand upright and look straight ahead.

Measure the length from the 7th cervical vertebra—the protruding bone at the base of the neck—to the point indicated in the measurement instructions for the specific garment.

Compare the result with the size chart.

Important: Total length is not the same as the child’s height.

If the measurement is taken several months before the event, take into account the child’s potential growth and select the size according to the size chart and the recommendations provided when placing the order.

Do not add any centimeters to the measured length.

2. Chest Circumference

Wrap the measuring tape around the torso at chest level, keeping it horizontal across the widest part of the chest and shoulder blades.

The tape measure should lie flat against the body but must not be too tight.

Do not slip a finger under the tape measure or add any slack.

Hold the end of the tape measure with your fingers and read the exact measurement.

Then compare the result with the MK Maryla size chart.

If the exact measurement isn’t listed in the chart, choose the appropriate size according to the guidelines provided next to the size chart.

3. Waist Circumference

Wrap the measuring tape around the child’s waist at the level of the navel.

The tape measure should lie flat against the body but should not be too tight.

Do not add any centimeters to the measurement.

Hold the joined end of the tape measure with your fingers and read the exact circumference.

Compare the result with the size chart and use it to select the appropriate size.

4. Hip Circumference

Wrap the measuring tape around your child’s hips at the widest point.

The tape measure should run evenly around the entire body and lie flat against the skin, but not be too tight.

Do not add any extra centimeters to the result.

Hold the ends of the tape measure together with your fingers and read the exact measurement.

Compare the result with the MK Maryla size chart.

Important before placing an order

Do not add any extra room to any measurement on your own.
The measuring tape should lie flat against the body but must not be too tight.

Compare all measurements with the MK Maryla size chart. This is the basis for selecting the right size for your First Communion outfit.

Accurate measurements are essential for a proper fit of the First Communion outfit.
