The cassock was established as the official attire of priests by a decree of Pope Sixtus VI in 1589, recorded in the constitution Cum Sacrosanctum. The latest changes to its official form were introduced during the Second Vatican Council on the initiative of Pope Paul VI.
The cassock is sewn in black, the edge is trimmed with decorative braid, and the bottom is finished with brushes.
In church tradition, it is customary for a cassock to have 33 buttons made of horsehair. The number was supposed to refer to the years of Christ's life. The last Vatican Council abolished this requirement, as it was considered that in the case of short priests, the placement of 33 buttons could be problematic. There were situations where very short priests had buttons sewn onto their sleeves just to comply with the papal decree. Nevertheless, MK Maryla cassocks always have 33 hand-knitted buttons. These buttons are decorative. The cassock is fastened with buttons covered by a strip, which is a very practical solution.
The cassocks offered by MK Maryla are made of high-quality fabric with an optimal composition of raw materials - the use of wool ensures the fabric's hygroscopicity and lightness, while the addition of polyester makes it resistant to creasing. The use of natural materials - both in the base fabric and the lining for very hot days - allows the skin to breathe better.
All cassocks at MK Maryla are tailor-made to fit the priest's figure. The cassock is the basic and most important garment of every priest, and its close fit is very important not only for optimal comfort, but also for aesthetic reasons - if it is too tight, it is uncomfortable to wear, and if it is too wide, it makes the cassock look more like a sack than the elegant attire of a church hierarch.
